Masato Hirata was fascinated by Shizuho Funaki's beautiful glassware. Mr.
Hirata studied at and then worked for the Funaki Glass workshop. His obvious
skill and the beautiful shapes of his work impress us everytime we use
his glassware. Mr. Hirata's glassware reminds us of the words of Soetsu
Yanagi, "Beauty for use." Masato Hirata was awarded the rookie
prize at the Kokugakai Exhibition in 2001.
